Marky Hyman and the Transference Factory

Mark Hyman’s recent commentary on Harold Pinter is so obviously dopey and logically flawed that it’s barely worth acknowledging, let alone rebutting. Choosing two quotations that accuse the U.S. of hegemonic desires (one regarding 9/11, the other about the use of force in the Balkans), Hyman concludes that Pinter’s words “could earn [him] a charter membership in the Angry Left Club.”

Huh?

Apparently for Hyman, the statements of a non-American, non-politician can be projected onto domestic political enemies without any explanation or support.

If that’s the case, Mark, can I say that another British writer, Roald Dahl, could be a charter member of the Radical Right Club because of
his anti-Semitic statements?

As usual, I’m just wondering.

And that’s The Counterpoint.

Hyman Index: One great big juicy textbook example of transference.

Ted,

This is typical slime from you disgusting liberals. I'm sick and tired of you disgusting liberals. Liberals liberals liberals. You can't even address my points, can you? CAN YOU? I'm disgusted. Poopy pooh!

Just kidding, Ted, I just had an SOS moment! Wow, brings me back to the playground. Time for a nap!

Keep up the fine work.

That really was a good one! It had me going for a minute. I really like the "can you? CAN YOU?" part.
Thanks, and keep bustin' Hyman.

Hmmm... Yes, you can see why SOS and his ilk engage in their kick'em tactics...

...on some primitive level, it IS fun to slam, debase, smear, annoy, distrust, impugn, snear...

Gosh, its easy to spiral down, huh?

Which brings me to this... I can now see why the Radical Right (including our Fratboy-in-Chief) find it hard to swallow evolution.

The scientists ARE wrong!

There IS dwindling evidence of it!

...at least if you hang around the Limbaugh-Cheney-Rumsfeld-TortureIsOkeeDokeeBecauseWe'reTheOnesDoingIt crowd.

(Ted, please don't critique my grammar!)

Charter Member of the Angry Left

British playwright Harold Pinter received the Nobel prize for literature. He may be talented when it comes to fiction, but he's clueless in the real world.

Three years ago, Pinter said, "The [9/11 attack] in New York was predictable and inevitable. It was an act of retaliation against constant and systematic manifestation of state terrorism on the part of the United States over many years, in all parts of the world."

At least Pinter is consistent. Regarding Bill Clinton's war in the Balkans, Pinter said, "The United States was determined to wage war against Serbia for one reason and one reason only -- to assert its domination over Europe." Pinter also accused the U.S. of a bombing campaign against "…television stations, schools, hospitals, theatres, [and] old people's homes…"

This kind of talk could earn Pinter a charter membership in the Angry Left Club to go along with his Nobel prize.

And that's The Point.

I'm Mark Hyman.

Hi Ted and others,

Well, it looks like Mark Hyman is blogging on Ted's website (see previous post)! Isn't that special.

Or it could be someone masquerading as Mark, someone with Hyman Envy, I guess.

I propose that our friend SOS, or someone of his ilk, is back, only now in cloak and dagger form! This time, he (or equivalent) is COMPLETELY devoid of any ideas so that all he can do is repeat Mark's golden words. Quite figuratively, a Mark Ditto head!

At any rate, it shows how the Angry Right has thrown in the cerebral towel, as it were.

Given Mark's well-documented concern about plagiarism, I can only conclude: Mark was really here (!!!) or there is -- dare I say it -- a plagiarist in our midst!
