More Mailbag Malaise

Just for the record, Mark Hyman again uses his mailbag segment to offer a mix of self-congratulation and false characterization. Quoting from responses to his misguided tirade against his straw man version of “multiculturalism,” Hyman reads from cheerleading emails, saying such baffling things as,”I am still surprised you can get away with what you say -- which is the truth -- in our liberal led society.”

Hyman also offers the usual parade of negative emails, chosen for their ability to be selectively quoted in a way that mocks those who disagree with him.

For example, Hyman quotes one viewer as saying, "Your forefathers exterminated one race and enslaved another to 'make this country great.'" Hyman replies, “Tom, your stereotyping is noted.”

Stereotyping? I don’t think that’s quite the right word, Mark. I think you mean “generalizing,” but that wouldn’t quite have the same “gotcha” ring as claiming a defender of multiculturalism is “stereotyping,” would it? Why let verbal accuracy be an issue when factual accuracy isn’t, right?

When Hyman said, "Tom, your stereotyping is noted", he meant that Tom used both hands on the keyboard - stereo-typing when writing the message.
Seriously though, Hyman's mailbag segment is a joke. It should be called 'The Gagmail Segment' or 'The Black-Bag Mail Segment' instead.
I do have to agree with part of one of his cheerleaders comments, that being that Hyman can still get away with what he says, which is always a lie when his lips are moving.
What's the media coming to? Next thing you know ABC will air a 911 docu-fraud mini-series, produced and directed by right-wing extremists and Rush Limbaugh will deliver the 'Free Speech' segment on the CBS evening news. Then we would know we were in real trouble.
Thanks Ted, and keep bustin' Hyman!

Ted,

Dollars to doughnuts that the "angry liberal" mailbag contributions come from low-lifers on the right-wing side.

I think we know of the phenomenon whereby some really angry (and illogical) right-wing extremists will go on rants and disguise themselves as lefties. Yeah, its counterproductive and stupid, but they think they are advancing the anger agenda. And they are.

Media reform -- returning the airwaves back to the people (slightly) is the only real cure for the cancer of Rightwing/corporate media that has taken over the airwaves. Of course, With McChimpy in office, good luck. Argh!
